Use your vivid imagination to hear me say this while attempting to impersonate Forest Gump: “The No Labels Party is like a box of chocolates…You never know what you’re gonna get.” I think a better name would be the “No Principles Party”. With the two major political parties that we now have, you can at least have an inkling of what principles they will follow in governing, although even that inkling has taken a beating as of late. According to my way of thinking (hopefully logical and rational) anyone tied to that label is quite specifically tied to NOTHING. Is NOTHING sacred? But I digress. So accordingly everything is ok and everything is not ok according to whether or not it benefits the individual No Labels politician. So what if Smokey is over the line; he’s a registered “No Labeler”. And even if Walter screams “over the line!”, Smokey can just calmly say “As a registered No Labeler I get to make the rules as we go along so put the piece down and mark it eight”. Even if you aren’t a Big Lebowski fan, you’re probably pickin up what I’m layin down here. Campaign promises, which are kept almost as often as New Years resolutions, will consist of statements like “I promise to govern, not according to any particular ideology or set of principles but according to what I believe is what’s best for my constituents!” And everyone will cheer. And I will have another headache. A chicken in every pot! Two electric cars in every Garagiola! Of course Mr. No Labels will do exactly what he wants, with his number one priority being getting elected and his number two priority being the filling of his wallet. So this no labels baloney is nothing new or improved, while it gives even wider birth to elected officials to decide what is and what is not good governance for the good of the Republic, which was intended to exist to serve all of the people, not just individual elitists who think they are demi-gods.
New paragraph which no doubt means another digression. Some of the more alert among you may have noticed that everything that the liberals (Marxists really) accuse conservatives of doing, they are doing that very thing themselves. Take the accusation that if Trump is elected, he will destroy democracy. No mention ever of how he will do that. The man was president for four years. He did not destroy democracy nor can anyone point to anything specific that he tried to do that would have destroyed democracy. There is no such thing as a free lunch or an unarmed insurrection, ok. On the other hand, how democracy edifying is it to nefariously try to prevent, by the party in power, the by- far -most- popular opposition candidate from fairly running in the election? It is not edifying it is democracy destroying. Can’t leave without yet another digression so again, many of the more alert among you may have noticed that a lot of the democracy screamers do not realize that this nation is a democratic Republic, not a pure democracy. The republic part is spelled out for us in the Bill of Rights in our Constitution. They are inalienable rights meaning that because they are God-given rights, they cannot be taken away from us by man-made laws, even laws created by a No-Labeler Dude.
Well written and interesting perspective of the “non-part”. I will never be a Trump fan despite the many things he’s done positively. What am am for is equal rights under the law for everyone. Don’t tell me you’re non-racist or binary when you embrace things like LGBTQXXX month, Black History month, Black National Anthem or inclusion for all. Equal justice does not mean we are all equal but that just isn’t true or we’d all be wearing Dior, Rolex and have plenty of pocket money!
